If you can explain something clearly or produce a useful deliverable, you can sell it before you own any equipment. Tutoring and freelance services are the fastest route from zero to first invoice.
Pick a specific promise
“I help secondary-school students pass maths” beats “I give maths lessons”. “I write product descriptions for small e-commerce shops” beats “I do copywriting”. A narrow promise makes referrals easy and justifies a higher price.
Pricing and packaging
- Tutoring: €20–€45 per hour depending on level and city; sell blocks of four or eight sessions.
- Freelance deliverable: price per project, not per hour. A five-page website audit or ten product descriptions has a clear value.
- Group sessions: teach three to six students at once to raise hourly revenue without raising the price.
Platforms versus direct clients
Marketplaces bring initial demand but take a commission and commoditise you. Use them to collect the first five reviews, then move repeat clients to direct invoicing. Always keep a simple profile, a photo, a clear description and two or three testimonials.
Your first week
- Write one sentence describing who you help and the result.
- Contact twenty people who already know you.
- Offer a free 20-minute diagnostic, not a free full session.
- Ask every client for a referral after the second paid session.
Keep a simple record of hours, topics and outcomes. That record becomes your proof, your pricing data and eventually the outline of a course or group programme.
