Resale works when you buy below market value from someone who wants speed, and sell to someone who wants convenience. The skill is sourcing, not selling.
Where to source
- Flea markets and car boots: best for tools, furniture, bikes, collectibles and branded clothing.
- Online classifieds: search for misspelled listings, bundle deals and “moving out this weekend” posts.
- Liquidation and returns pallets: higher risk, higher variance; only buy categories you understand.
- Local shops closing down: fixtures, display units and surplus stock.
The buying checklist
- Check completed sales, not asking prices. An item listed at €200 for months is not worth €200.
- Calculate all-in cost: purchase price, fuel, cleaning, replacement parts, platform fee and shipping.
- Target at least a 2.5× multiple on all-in cost, or €30+ absolute profit per item.
- Inspect before paying: function, completeness, damage, smell, authenticity.
- Walk away from anything you cannot test or describe confidently.
Start narrow
Choose one category for your first month: bicycles, power tools, baby equipment, vintage kitchenware, or a specific brand. Narrow sourcing builds expertise, speeds up valuation and makes your listings look credible.
Keep a sourcing log with date, item, cost, expected sale price and actual sale. After twenty items you will know your real average profit and which sources deserve your time.
