Print-on-demand lets you sell physical products without holding stock. You upload a design, a supplier prints and ships it, and you keep the difference. It is a real model, but it is competitive and requires patience.
Startup cost
A shop subscription, sample products and a small design budget can stay under €100–€200. Order one sample of your best design; you cannot judge quality from a mockup.
Niche before design
Generic quote shirts rarely sell. Choose an audience with identity and inside language: a profession, a hobby, a local club, a life stage. The design should make that person feel seen, not just decorate a shirt.
The unit economics
- Base cost of a printed t-shirt: €10–€16
- Retail price: €25–€32
- Platform and payment fees: €3–€6
- Advertising cost per sale: variable; if it exceeds €10, margins collapse
Know your break-even before running ads. Organic content and niche communities are cheaper starting channels than broad paid campaigns.
A realistic first month
- Create one shop around one audience.
- Publish ten designs, not one hundred.
- Order samples of the top two.
- Post the process, not just the product.
- Review which designs get saves and clicks, then double down.
Treat print-on-demand as a design and audience test. If nothing sells after a focused month, keep the skill and change the niche rather than blaming the platform.
